What: MetroCeliacs’ Gluten Free – “Pot-Lucky-for-us-there’s-no-Gluten” Night

More Details: FREE. The MetroCeliacs – Chicago’s gluten-free social group – are hosting a Gluten-Free Potluck!  To sign up, please email!  Bring your favorite Appetizer, Entrée, or Dessert (along with copies of your recipe and a list of all ingredients used) and enjoy chatting with fellow celiacs and sharing ideas, experiences, and recipes while eating delicious and safe foods.  There is limited space for this event.

What: Cooking for your Health — Gluten-Free Cooking
When: Tuesday, October 6; 6:30 pm
Where: Whole Foods Market — Beverly Hills, CA
More Details: FREE. Join DR. Barry Lomax, a Naturopath from Beneveda Medical Group and Kelly Keough, author of “Sugar-free Gluten-free Baking and Desserts” and host of Veria TV cooking show “The Sweet Truth” for a class about eating a gluten-free diet.  Dr. Lomax will discuss gluten intolerance and Kelly will demonstrate how to cook gluten-free.  She will feature a Queen Quinoa Breakfast Cereal and a Mermaid Salad.

More Details: Dr. Alessio Fasano, Director of the Center for Celiac Research at the U of MD and world-renowned expert on celiac disease, will be talking about information from his recently published article “Surprises from Celiac Disease” which was published in the August 2009 issue of Scientific American. If you are in the area, this is a lecture you won’t want to miss.

What: Gluten-Free Cooking Class
When: Saturday, October 10; 1 pm – 3:00 pm
Where: Whole Foods — Fairfax, VA
More Details: FREE, but space is limited so reservations are a must: email or call customer service 703-222-2058. Jules Shepard, author of Nearly Normal Cooking For Gluten-Free Eating, will lead the class. Free product samples, recipe cards and coupons to take home. There will be lots of yummy food to taste and you can see how each is made so you feel confident making it at home. After the class, Jules will answer any questions you may have about gluten-free cooking as well as host a book signing. We will have both of Jules’ books available for purchase at the book signing!

More Details: FREE. John Snyder, MD, speaks on “Celiac Disease: What’s New.” Dr. Snyder is the chief of the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at Children’s National. He is considered an expert in a variety of GI disorders. His current research interests include H. pylori and celiac disease.

More Details: Cost $30/person. Join Chef Susan as she demonstrates how to make two more DELICIOUS, gluten-free cookies – Snicker Doodles and Old Fashioned Pumpkin cookies. Great for Halloween and Thanksgiving celebrations. What: Gluten Free Group of Friends: Vegan Pilafs
When: Monday, October 12; 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Where: Whole Foods — Minneapolis, MN
More Details: Cost $5. Pre-registration is required. With Chef Ani, you will explore grain alternatives that are flavorful, nutritionally potent, and easy to turn from grain sides into great sides. We will explore how to cook them and sample three gluten-free side dishes appropriate for a light lunch or a side dish for dinner. On the menu: Roasted chickpeas with seven vegetables; Exotic rice pilaf with apple, pecans and fennel; and Lentils with mushrooms and scallions.

What: 8th Annual Gala Benefit for the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University Medical Center

What: 4th Annual Colin Leslie Walk
When: Sunday, October 18; 9 am
Where: Rye High School — Rye, NY
More Details: Cost $20 advance registration, $25 onsite registration ($5 discount for kids 12 and under). Join this family-oriented event to benefit the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University. The walk, the biggest celiac-related event in the region, also features a large vendor fair and a gluten-free lunch available for purchase.

More Details: Tickets are $20 in advance, $30 at the door. Seating is limited and on a first-come first-served basis. Pre-registration is recommended to ensure seating. This conference will present the newest advances in gluten sensitivity and celiac disease from world-renowned authors and clinicians: Dr. Rodney Ford, MD; and Drs. Vikki and Richard Petersen, DC, CCN, Founders of HealthNOW Medical Center. The event will include lunch and gluten-free samples from local vendors. What: San Francisco Cooking Spree
When: Friday – Saturday, October 30; 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm
Where: Treasure Island, Building 1 — San Francisco, CA
More Details: Admissions fees are: $50 in advance, $75 at the door. Ten top chefs will partner with renowned area doctors and media representatives to create delicious gluten-free food for all to sample as these teams compete for the Best Gluten-Free Dish of the evening. Guests also will enjoy a buffet of hearty hors d’oeuvres, desserts, beer and wine—all gluten-free. All attendees will take home a fabulous goodie bag filled with treats from a variety of gluten-free vendors.
