Heavenly Chocolate Souffle – Ready in 22 Minutes

Dessert for What’s For Dinner Wednesday? Yep, Linda at The Gluten-Free Homemaker has suggested a dessert theme for this week. Of course, I don’t think that means you have to eat it for dinner. But, why not? If you’re still hungry after eating it, then you can have some dinner.
So, I may be breaking the rules by offering a product review instead of a recipe, but I really wanted to share this dessert with you. Believe it or not, this gluten-free chocolate soufflé was a frozen dessert I bought at the grocery store. I was surprised one morning to find this product at Wegmans . Surprised because it was not in the freezers with the gluten-free items. I usually just skip over the frozen dessert sections in the grocery stores because they are usually filled with pies and cakes full of gluten. I just happened to be walking by a freezer when I noticed the picture of the chocolate soufflé on the box. That was enough to get my attention. And after close inspection of ingredients, I discovered it was gluten-free. The box even has “Gluten-Free” printed on the side panel.
The dessert looked good, and was gluten-free, but it seemed a little pricey at $5.99 for two servings. But, the individual soufflés each come in their own reusable ceramic ramekin. I could no longer resist. I had to give them a try.
They actually stayed in my freezer at home for a few weeks before my husband and I gave into the temptation one night. We took them straight from the freezer, removed the packaging and put them in a preheated oven for 22 minutes. They were even better than I was expecting. They had the rich chocolate flavor of a brownie with the texture of a light and airy soufflé. I was impressed.
If you have the time, energy and desire to bake great gluten-free desserts for yourself and others, maybe you don’t need this. But if baking desserts isn’t for you, this would be a great dessert to serve at a small dinner party. Or, maybe this would be a great gluten-free dessert to take with you to a dinner party, so you weren’t the only one who wasn’t eating dessert because it was made with gluten. Even better, if you’re not familiar with the gluten-free diet, but you want to have something to serve your celiac guests, this would be perfect. No worries about cross-contamination trying to bake a gluten-free dessert in a kitchen with gluten all around. It’s easy, simple, and delicious.
I don’t know where you might find it in your grocery store, but it’s worth looking and asking for it. The Heavenly Soufflé website has a current list of retailers carrying the product. I also found it at Amazon , though it wasn’t in stock at the time.
