Menu Plan October 24 – Spooky Delights
Posted By Heather On October 24, 2011 @ 9:10 am In Menu Plan | 14 Comments
[2]We’re getting ready for Halloween at my house. The kids got their costumes figured out, and we finally pulled out some decorations for the kids to play around with. We also made some fun meringue cookies in the shape of ghosts, which I thought was perfect for this week’s Gluten Free Menu Swap.
The theme this week is Spooky Delights. Thanks to Angela [3] for designing the fun menu swap logo button this week! Do you make any special or fun foods for Halloween? Here are some of the fun things we’ve done in the past:
Now on to the Menus. I’m starting the week with another slow-cooker meal. It’s great way to start the week. It frees me up to get a lot of work done and not worry about dinner. Check below to see what others have on their gluten-free menus. Next Week’s Menu Swap will be Soups and Chilis.
Celiac Family’s Menu This Week:
Monday - Angela’s Slow-Cooker Sweet and Sour Chicken [12] with rice
Tuesday – Taquitos with Southwestern Shredded Chicken [13], Guacamole, and tossed salad
Wednesday – Pizza using Bob’s Red Mill Mix [14] for the crust and tossed salad
Thursday - Grilled Steaks with steamed broccoli and corn
Friday – Spaghetti and Meatballs
Saturday - Trying Grilled Pork Satay and Fried Rice from The Gluten-Free Asian Kitchen [15] cookbook
Sunday – Leftover Buffet
Gluten Free Menu Swap Roundup
Cheryl at Gluten Free Goodness [16] has plenty of Halloween goodness [16] to share with friends this week: Pumpkin Seed Brittle [17], Pineapple Raspberry Crisp, and a Chocolate Banana Bread [18], which must be put on my list of recipes to make next. Also on her menu this week is Curried Collard with Beef [19], Herb Salad with Salmon, and my very own White Bean Chili [20].
Lisa at Extraordinary Life [21] is making some very fun mummy wrapped hot dogs and worms in dirt to celebrate Halloween. She’s also sharing some new recipes she’s trying from some of her favorite bloggers: Diane’s Chicken Croquettes [22], Linda’s favorite Chicken Breasts [23], and my pork and vegetable Egg Rolls [24]. She also her own Salisbury Steak with mushroom gravy [21] that looks very rich and yummy.
At So Simply Good [25], you’ll find more links to great gluten-free and paleo dishes this week. Samantha has Curried Cauliflower, Savory Almond Muffins, and Grilled Chicken with Rosemary and Bacon on the menu [25]. Oh, and a Leek and Sweet Potato Soup that looks good, too!
Renee at Beyond Rice and Tofu [26] is still harvesting vegetables from their garden, and it sounds like the Kale is plentiful! Along with lots of kale, her menu [26] includes veggie burgers with okra, Tofu Stir Fry, Poblano Pinto Stew, and Pupusas.
Check out the adorable Mummy and Ghost cupcakes [27] at Angela’s Kitchen. Angela made them for Halloween last year. This year she’s making pumpkin whoopie pies, roasted pumpkin seeds, and sweet and spicy pepita popcorn balls. On her menu this week [28] is Spinach Burgers [29], Mashed Cauliflower, and Pumpkin Waffles [30] with homemade Sausage [31].
Paige at Not Missing a Thing! [32] is back this week with what looks like another busy week. On her menu [33] is Chili and Cornbread, Slow-Cooker Cashew Chicken Teriyaki, Pizza [33], and more. This weekend, her family is also planning on eating at Pei Wei’s, which she says is kid-friendly and has a selection of gluten-free items from which to order.
This week, Amanda at Gluten Free Detroit Metro [34] has Meatballs and Pasta, Baked Chicken, Chicken and Broccoli Crepes [35], and more. I’ve never made crepes myself, so I was happy to see that she had a gluten-free crepe recipe [35] and directions for making them.
Rachel at Rachel Cooks [36] is going to try making some spider cookies for her son’s class this week. Can’t wait to hear how they turn out. Her menu this week includes Pork Chops, Tacos, Baked Potato Soup, Chicken Stroganoff [37], and more [36].
Emily at Our Frugal Happy Life [38] has Pizza Chicken (not to be confused with Chicken Pizza) on her menu this week [38]. She’s also making homemade Hamburger Helper, Shepherd’s Pie, and Spanish Rice with hamburger.
Alta at Tasty Eats at Home [39] has Pumpkin Spice Chicken Cacciatore on her menu this week [39], as well as Pulled Pork, Fresh Black-eyed Peas [40], and Buffalo Chicken Wings. She also has some great ideas for breakfast and lunch — like acorn squash breakfast porridge.
