[2]The Gluten-Free Menu Swap is being hosted by Lisa at Extraordinary Life [2] this week. And the theme is Paleo.

Are you familiar with the Paleo diet? Sometimes it is called the Caveman Diet or Primal Eating. I keep seeing more and more about it, and the benefits it can have for so many people. As someone who continues to refine my diet to feel my best, I’ve been curious. It is a gluten-free diet, since all grains are removed. It also eliminates dairy, legumes, beans, and sugar. Sound extreme? Well, maybe for some people it is too restrictive. But I feel like I’m already halfway there.

I cleared gluten from my diet over seven years ago. I’ve cut back on sugar and grains. And last year, I cut dairy out of my diet completely. I’ve always had a problem with lactose, but it seemed like it wasn’t enough to just remove the lactose anymore. Stomach aches, cramps, etc. returned. What I didn’t realize, is that by removing even the small amount of dairy (usually cheese and butter) from my meals, I not only eliminated the pain, I removed inflammation and bloating I didn’t even realize I had. Within a couple weeks, my pants started to feel loose, I no longer felt that afternoon crash, and I had more energy to get things done. I should also note that by removing dairy, I’ve also lost some weight — an unexpected bonus. I lost about 1-2 pounds a month despite adding dairy substitutes and other foods like more avocado to my meals.

Being completely gluten and dairy free for a year, I’ve started to notice problems creeping in again. I’ve considered deleting sugar and legumes from my diet to see if that helps. I’ve been reducing the amount of sugar and grains I eat for a while now. We’ll see if I can actually eliminate them. I’ve been wanting to give the Paleo diet a try, but have needed a little push to commit to it. My husband said he could try it for a week. So, I figured we’d start there and see how it goes. So, our meal plan this week will include Meat, Fish, Eggs, and plenty of fruits and vegetables.

Lisa at Extraordinary Life [2] has jumped into the diet (with a push from her husband), and is so impressed by the results, she doesn’t want to go back to eating all those foods we love to eat but don’t always love us back. She is hosting the Gluten-Free Menu Swap [2] this week, so make sure you check out her post this week to hear what she thinks of the Paleo diet. All of the menus shared will be gluten-free, but not necessarily Paleo.
