By · Print This Post Print This Post

Yikes! There’s only a few days left to order any last minute holiday gifts. Here are a few ideas for you.

Gluten-Free Cookies shipped to you (or to friends and family) from Dancing Deer Baking Co.:

Dancing Deer has several options for Gluten-Free items: Molasses Cookies, Brownies, and gift baskets. The Molasses Cookies are also dairy-free, and they sent me a box of the Molasses Cookies to try. The entire family loved them! They are large, soft and chewy cookies with the tasty flavors of molasses, cinnamon, and cloves.

The Molasses Cookie gift box contains 14 perfectly-packed cookies and would be a welcome treat for anyone, but especially for those who don’t eat gluten or dairy. Send them to friends and family, put them out at your holiday party, take to a party to share, or put them out for Santa. I’m sure all will enjoy them.

*Although the cookies are certified Gluten-Free, the package labeling does state they were “produced in a facility that uses milk, soy, wheat, peanuts & tree nuts.”

My Cookbook Choices at Amazon this year.

Stock the Crock by Phyllis Good
Let me start by saying that not all of the recipes in this book are gluten-free, but that’s partly what I like about it. Most of the recipes have easy fixes for different diets, including Gluten-Free, Vegan, Vegetarian, Paleo, and even cooking for picky eaters. That means you could give this cookbook to friends and family who don’t cook or eat gluten-free. And…they would be able to make an easy slow-cooker meal that would work for friends and family who are gluten-free. Or, perhaps they have friends that have multiple diet restrictions. This cookbook is easy to follow, has lots of wonderful pictures, and lots of tempting recipes.

The first part of the cookbook also gives lots of tips on cooking with a slow-cooker. From the size of the slow-cooker, to poaching and baking tips, to hacks for cooking two recipes at the same time, or even using it as a cooler! This book is filled with great information and recipes for using your slow-cooker.

We received a copy of the cookbook, and were able to try the Screamin’ Good Carnitas recipe. Everyone in the family loved it the first night, when we just served the meat straight out of the slow-cooker. Since we had so much leftover, the second night I baked the remaining meat on a sheet pan in the oven, as the recipe suggests. It was even tastier. Another great recipe for a party or large family gathering.

Stock the Crock has 100 recipes within the categories of Soups, Stews, and Chowders; Vegetarian and Pasta Mains; Poultry; Beef and Pork; Fish and Seafood; Sides; and Sweet Treats. Plenty of options for a variety of diets and tastes are sure to please everyone.

The Cultured Cook by Michelle Schoffro Cook

This paperback book is full of “Delicious Fermented Foods with Probiotics to Knock Out Inflammation, Boost Gut Health, Lose Weight & Extend Your Life.” Sound good? If it doesn’t sound good to you now, just wait until after the holidays. You know, after we’ve indulged in all the delicious, but full-of-sugar and other inflammatory foods that we eat during the holidays.

I’m sure in January, when everyone is thinking about exercising and getting back to healthier living, this book will be at the top of the list. All of the recipes in the book are Gluten-Free and Vegan and include recipes for making Dairy-Free Yogurt; Vegan Cheeses; Sauerkraut, Pickles, and Cultured Vegetables; Fruit Cultures and Homemade Vinegars; Cultured Beverages; and snack and dessert Recipes Using Your Cultured Creations.

The Cultured Cook introduces fermented foods and explains how important they are for good health. The health benefits are numerous, from Nutrition Absorption and Prevention of Inflammation to Killing Superbugs and Preventing Disease. The Cultured Cook goes into detail about how fermented foods can also help with weight loss. I’m looking forward to trying some of the recipes, and not just the tempting ice cream and cheesecake recipes. 🙂 Salsas, Chutneys, Vinegars, and more!
